Diriyah nights sparkle for Formula E 2023 World Championship

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship held its second round this weekend in Saudi Arabia, with an exciting second batch of entertainment on tap in Diriyah, the cradle of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi royal family.

The 2023 CORE Diriyah E-Prix saw Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche) move from ninth on the grid to first place. Former leader Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) finished second, closely followed by Sam Bird (Jaguar TCS Racing). TAG Heuer Porsche and Avalanche Andretti took the top spots in the field, while Formula E welcomes Maserati as well as NEOM-partnered McLaren to the grid for the first time.

Gen3 cars, the revelation

The event also marked a breakthrough for the Gen3 race cars revealed in the Formula E championship. The Gen3 Formula cars produce 600 kW of total power, with speeds exceeding 320 km/h, thanks to a combination of 350 kW at the rear axle and 250 kW at the front. Output is further enhanced with more than 40 percent of the energy generated by regenerative braking, up from 25 percent in the Gen2. The batteries can also be recycled at the end of their life.
