Hend Sabri, first Arab woman to join the jury of the Venice Mostra
After the Lebanese actress and director, Nadine Labaki, as a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, it is now the turn of Tunisian Hend Sabri to take a seat at the jury table of another major film festival, the Mostra de Venice next September.
Actresses in the Arab world are on the rise this year. After actress and director Nadine Labaki, who became the first Arab woman member of the jury at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, it is now Tunisian actress Hend Sabri’s turn to make history by becoming the first Arab woman to be selected as a member of the jury at the 2019 Venice International Film Festival.
By becoming a jury, Hend Sabri will see several promising films compete from August 28 to September 7, including three from the Arab world: “Sayidat Al-Bahr (Scales)” by Saudi director Shahad Ameen, “The Perfect Candidate” by Haifaa Al-Mansour and “All This Victory” by Ahmad Ghossein. A real pride for the Tunisian actress:

Popular in the Arab world
Born in Kébli, Tunisia, Hend Sabri began her career in 1994 as part of the film Samt El Qosour (The Silence of the Palaces), a feature film directed by Moufida Tlatli. In 2000, she continued her career in the film The Season of Men, before turning to Egyptian cinema in 2001, and obtaining roles in Inas El-Degheidy’s Mozakerat Morahka (A Teenager’s Diary) and more recently, Marwan Hamed’s The Blue Elephant 2.
