Medvedev flies over Saudi Arabia’s first international tennis tournament

Russian Daniil Medveded won the inaugural edition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup, Saudi Arabia’s first international tennis tournament.

With a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the final against Italy’s Fabio Fognini, Daniil Medvedev, ranked number 5 in the world in the ATP rankings, won the inaugural edition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup, which was accompanied by a cash prize of one million dollars.

Technological revolution

In addition to the fact that the tournament – sponsored by Saudi Aramco – was the first to be held in the kingdom, it will also go down in history as the first tournament to use Hawk-Eye Live technology.

Hawk-Eye Live technology is designed to eliminate the need for linesmen and to provide precision timing in refereeing decisions. The system sends audio-visual signals to the chair umpire, set to a tenth of a second, to determine fouls.

Both the organisers and participants are positive about this first tournament in the kingdom, and are already looking forward to the organisation of the next edition.
