The first night race in the history of Formula E will take place in Saudi Arabia.

For the 2021 season of the Formula E championship, the race scheduled on the track of Diriyah, in Saudi Arabia, will take place at night. This is a first for Formula E.
A Grand Prix inspired by the success of F1 night races
This is therefore a first in the history of motor racing, bringing together single-seaters at the cutting edge of electric technology. For the first time in its admittedly recent history, Formula E will host a night race, on the lands of Diriyah in Saudi Arabia. A splendid opportunity to admire these cars racing in the darkness that should add spice to the event.
If this event is a great first for electric motorsport, it is inspired by the recent emoluments of its big sister in age: Formula 1. Since 2008, the F1 World Championship has had a night event on its calendar (in this case, the one taking place in Singapore). This is also not the first time that a Grand Prix has been held at night in the Arab world, as the race at the Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi has been held at night since it was added to the calendar in 2009.
The mobilization of an unprecedented technical system
More than the holding of a night race, it is the organization and the technical means put in place to ensure the Grand Prix that impresses. The track will be fully illuminated by a low-energy LED system, which is itself powered by entirely renewable energy sources.

In addition to a breathtaking show, let’s not forget to mention that Diriyah, the host city of the event, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spectators watching the race will be able to contemplate the spectacle of the fierce battle that the drivers will be waging to win the event while admiring, just a stone’s throw from the track, the remains of the Al-Diriyah site.
