Flying taxis in Dubai by 2026 ?
Dubai is making waves in the aviation industry as it sets its sights on becoming the first city in the world with a fully developed network of vertiports for flying taxis.
UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum recently approved the design of the new air cab stations in Dubai, with the launch of operations expected in just three years.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with leading companies Skyports Infrastructure and Joby Aviation, designed and developed the infrastructure for the expected launch of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations. With a top speed of 300 km/h and a maximum range of 241 km, these air cabs are expected to revolutionize the way people travel around the city, offering an environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
An end-to-end passenger journey with zero emissions
Dubai hopes to offer passengers a zero-emission, end-to-end journey with these air cabs passing Dubai’s most popular landmarks, such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame and Burj Al Arab. The aircraft’s vertical takeoff and landing capabilities are also expected to ensure fast turnaround times.
At the 2017 World Government Summit in the United Arab Emirates, the RTA presented a simulation, allowing attendees to get a feel for flying in these air cabins.

Connecting key areas in Dubai
The initial air cab network is expected to connect four key areas of Dubai: Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina. This network will allow residents and tourists to travel quickly between the city’s landmarks.
