“Regards”: Moroccan filmmakers tell of their confinement
During the period of confinement, the Moroccan Cinema Center asked six directors to tell their confinement in short films, which are now all available on the organization’s platform.
Their names are Tala Hadid, Mohamed Mouftakir, Faouzi Bensaidi, Hakim Belabbes, Adil Fadili, and Yassine Marco Maroccu, and they have in common, as most of the world’s population, to have taken the confinement head-on. Except that a filmmaker, unlike other professions, has the tools to express his or her feelings, and to show the world how he or she views his or her daily life and situation.
This is therefore the mission entrusted to them by the Moroccan Cinema Center. To produce each one a short film to tell the story of this unprecedented situation, armed only with their telephones.
Making Moroccan cinema shine
This is in line with the CCM’s desire to democratize access to culture and cinema. Indeed, since the beginning of the state of health emergency and the period of confinement, the Center has broadcast via the net 98 Moroccan films (feature films and documentaries as well as four Moroccan feature films in homage to Feue Touria Jabrane), all with the aim of “allowing the largest number of film lovers in Morocco and abroad to review or discover, at the convenience of each, the wealth of Moroccan film heritage,” says the CCM in a statement.
