Saudi Arabia : Upcoming Hollywood blockbuster to be filmed in NEOM

NEOM, at the forefront of Saudi Arabia’s futuristic ambitions, is once again shaping up as a backdrop for the silver screen after numerous films were produced there in the space of a few months. Filmmaker Terry George has announced plans to shoot his next action-thriller, Riverman, in the northwest of the Kingdom.
A wartime tale
Drawing on war diaries and accounts of the Afghan war, which ran from 2001 to 2008, Riverman promises to weave a gripping tale that explores the depths of human nature against a turbulent backdrop of strife. In the words of the director himself: “Riverman is a powerful and highly dramatic war story. I’m delighted to be embarking on this major project in the captivating setting of NEOM”.

NEOM: a new player on the global film scene
Wayne Borg, NEOM’s Managing Director of Media, Entertainment and Cultural Industries, welcomed the collaboration: “We are delighted to welcome Terry George and the Riverman team to the cinematic wonderland that is NEOM. Their decision to choose NEOM as the backdrop for their artistic vision is a testament to the world-class facilities, exceptional crews and unparalleled production support we offer.”
NEOM is increasingly attracting the attention of the film and television industry. The region has seen the arrival of some 30 productions in the space of 18 months, including Rupert Wyatt’s “Desert Warrior”, starring talents such as Anthony Mackie and Sir Ben Kingsley, and Rajkumar Hirani’s “Dunki”, with Shahrukh Khan. Furthermore, the futuristic region in Saudi Arabia is gearing up to host MBC’s 200-episode-a-year TV series “Exceptional”, which is due to start shooting in July.
