United Arab Emirates: a garden of Eden with an Indian countryside feel

Bordering the Sharjah desert, a farming couple from India has created an incredible green plot, breaking with the atmosphere of the city or the sandy expanses.

Sudheesh and his wife Ragi Guruvayoor’s Green Heaven Farms is certainly one of the most surprising establishments in the United Arab Emirates. At 45 years old, Sudheesh decided to set up a rice field similar to the one you can find in his home state of Kerbala, India.

A piece of India in the desert

The idea came to them during the Covid-19 pandemic, because of the travel restrictions that followed. Unable to travel to India, Sudheesh and Ragi brought India to the Emirates. Thus, the couple learned to tame the soil of the country to make it a true organic and responsible Garden of Eden.

Green Heaven Farms was built in just a few months, by planting and harvesting seeds. Combining their knowledge of engineering and microbiology, Sudheesh and Ragi gradually built a 1.5 hectare water-rich idyll, while adopting environmentally friendly methods.

An exotic visit to the Indian countryside

Thanks to the construction of a pond, a well and a mini waterfall, the estate is constantly irrigated, which favors the growth of crops. In addition to rice, the farm is colored with sunflowers, red chilies, wheat, vegetables and fruit trees. The farm is also home to animals such as rabbits, ostriches and emus.

The estate opens its doors to visitors every day for a unique and exotic ride in the Emirates. The farm offers boat rides on the small pond, a visit to the organic vegetable garden and a discovery of the farm animals that children enjoy. A grocery store has also been installed to allow passengers to buy food directly. Visitors can also sit in the tea room, enjoy a barbecue and stay in a traditional hut made of coconut fronds to soak up the calm of the place.
